Your First Therapy Session

After you contact us we will ask you some brief questions, by email or on the phone, to establish whether counselling or psychotherapy is right for you just now.

The Therapy RoomYour first appointment - The first counselling or psychotherapy appointment is for an assessment which lasts for one hour. Your therapist will greet you and show you to a comfortable room in a private and confidential setting.

There is no right or wrong way for you to be - this is your session, your therapist will want to gather some information from you, and you may want to say a lot, or on this first session you may want to take it slowly.

The purpose of the therapy assessment is for the therapist to get some idea of the problems you are facing and what you hope to achieve from coming to therapy. It also gives you an opportunity to see if you would like to work in this way and with this therapist, and to ask any questions that you have about the therapy.

The Therapy Contract - If you both decide to go ahead, your therapist will draw up a Therapy Contract with you. This outlines the practicalities like the dates and times of the session, details of fee payment and what happens if you need to cancel. It will also include a Confidentiality agreement.
